Arsenal icon Ian Wright has offered his honest take on why Mohamed Salah’s performances have dipped dramatically for Liverpool this campaign — and his explanation might just surprise fans. 👀
Last season, Salah was simply unstoppable. The Egyptian talisman fired the Reds to glory, clinching the Premier League Golden Boot and reminding everyone why he’s one of the world’s elite forwards. But fast forward to this season, and something feels… off. The goals, the spark, the dominance — all seem to have faded.
According to Wright, the reason lies not with Salah himself, but with who’s no longer behind him — Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Arsenal legend pointed out that Salah’s brilliance often relied on the perfect chemistry he shared with the right-back, whose pinpoint passes and early deliveries unlocked defenses with ease. Now that connection is gone, Wright claims, and it’s turned Salah into “a passenger.”
Speaking on The Overlap, Wright explained:
> “When you remove someone like Trent, who could hit those quick, perfect balls the moment Salah found space, you take away what made him so dangerous. He can’t get that early pass anymore — it’s been taken away from him — and now he just looks lost.”
Liverpool’s new setup under Arne Slot hasn’t helped either. With several fresh faces still trying to find rhythm and Alexander-Arnold sidelined, the Reds’ attack hasn’t quite clicked.
