Liverpool’s Champions League hopes took another hit on Wednesday night — and Arne Slot made sure nobody misunderstood how he felt about it. After a crushing 4–1 loss to PSV at Anfield, the Liverpool manager looked like a man who had finally run out of patience.

And one player, in particular, was at the centre of his fury.

According to sources close to the dressing room, Slot didn’t sugar-coat a single word. His frustration overflowed the moment the team walked in after full-time, reportedly saying:

“From what I saw tonight, it’s almost like he wants the board to sack me. How does a professional player miss those clear chances?”

It was a rare moment of raw honesty from the Liverpool boss — but anyone who watched the match could understand why.

Four Golden Chances… All Thrown Away

Liverpool were desperate for someone to step up in front of goal. Instead, they watched as four massive opportunities slipped away. Mistimed finishes, rushed shots, and one-on-one situations that somehow ended everywhere except the back of the net.

Four open chances.
Four wasted moments.
Four reasons why the match slipped out of Liverpool’s hands.

Against a PSV side that punished every mistake, those misses weren’t just costly — they were unforgivable.

A Terrible Night at the Worst Possible Time

What made the situation even more devastating was the timing. Slot has been trying to stabilise a team that’s been inconsistent in both domestic and European competitions. This was supposed to be the performance that turned things around.

The floodlights, the Anfield atmosphere, the chance to silence critics — it was all set up for a statement win.

Instead, Liverpool delivered another chapter of the same frustrating story.

Fans Explode With Anger Online

It didn’t take long for supporters to voice their frustration. Social media erupted immediately after the match, with countless fans calling for drastic changes.

Some demanded the player be benched “until further notice.”
Others described the misses as “the most embarrassing finishing of the Champions League season.”

The entire atmosphere surrounding the club shifted sharply — from concern to disappointment, and now to outright anger.

Slot’s Reaction Sends a Clear Message

Perhaps the most worrying sign of all was Slot’s own response. Managers rarely speak so bluntly unless they’re at their breaking point. His tone suggested a deep sense of betrayal — not just due to poor finishing, but a lack of responsibility and professionalism in a must-win match.

This wasn’t just a lost game.
It was a lost opportunity to show Europe that Liverpool still have bite.

Slot walked off looking like a man tired of excuses — and ready to make big decisions.

What Happens Next?

One thing is now unmistakably clear: that player’s place in the starting XI is no longer guaranteed. With the January window approaching, performances like this could determine who stays and who is shown the exit door.

Liverpool cannot afford another night like this.
And Arne Slot? He’s made his stance very clear:

Deliver when it matters… or prepare to pack your bags.
