Liverpool are reportedly planning a major winter move as they aim to bolster their defence in the January transfer window. According to multiple reports, the Reds are ready to offer around €95 million to bring Italian centre-back Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan to Anfield.
After an exhilarating first season under Arne Slot, which saw Liverpool lift the Premier League title, the current campaign has been far from smooth — particularly at the heart of defence. Inconsistency at centre-back has been a persistent problem, prompting Liverpool’s leadership to seek a top talent who can lead from the back.
Bastoni, who has been one of Serie A’s standout defenders since joining Inter in 2017, ticks plenty of boxes for Liverpool. Known for his calmness on the ball, leadership qualities, and tactical intelligence, he’s seen as the perfect candidate to upgrade Liverpool’s backline — especially with Virgil van Dijk entering the later stages of his career and the future of Ibrahima Konaté still uncertain.
Despite being under contract with Inter until 2028, the Italian international remains a priority target for Liverpool — with the club prepared to splash big money to secure his signature and solidify their defence long-term.
