Martin Zubimendi has finally spoken out about his decision to turn down Liverpool last summer — a choice that puzzled many after his standout performances for Spain at the Euros and the Reds’ interest in bolstering their midfield under new boss Arne Slot.
Despite being strongly linked with a switch to Anfield in August 2024, the 26-year-old instead remained loyal to Real Sociedad, citing his deep-rooted “love for the club” at the time — a sentiment that now feels ironic, considering he’s just signed for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

He added, “It was a tough moment. I had to decide if I truly wanted to leave. In the end, I felt I still had more to learn at La Real and that staying there was the right move for my development.”
