Why Liverpool Didn’t Get a Penalty After Bernardo Silva’s Contact on Mohamed Salah
Liverpool fans were left frustrated late in the first half of the clash with Manchester City after Mohamed Salah’s appeal for a penalty was waved away.
The moment came just before the break, around the 43rd minute, when a set-piece delivery caused chaos inside City’s penalty area. As the ball dropped invitingly, Salah moved to attack it, only to end up on the turf.
Replays appeared to show Bernardo Silva making slight contact with the Liverpool forward, with his arm seemingly brushing or pulling Salah as both players challenged for position. Salah immediately protested, believing the contact was enough to warrant a spot-kick.
Despite the protests, the referee allowed play to continue. The officials judged that the contact was minimal and not deliberate, viewing it as part of a natural coming-together rather than a clear foul. As a result, no penalty was awarded, leaving Liverpool empty-handed from the incident.
