Virgil van Dijk responds to Alexis Mac Allister’s heartfelt message after Argentina setback 🇦🇷⚽

Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister took to social media with an emotional post after Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers — and his words quickly drew attention from big names in football.

The midfielder, who recently returned to Liverpool’s line-up in their narrow 1-0 victory over Arsenal, missed the clash against Newcastle through injury but has since regained fitness. Called up by Argentina during the break, he didn’t feature in the win over Venezuela but was given minutes in the loss to Ecuador.

Despite the result, Mac Allister chose to remain positive, sharing pictures on Instagram alongside a powerful message:

👉 “Last match to close out these qualifiers ahead of the next World Cup. We finish on top, giving everything with every step we take together. Thank you for supporting us — it’s an honour to be part of this journey. We’ll always push for more.”

The post quickly caught the eye of Virgil van Dijk, who dropped a reaction, as well as Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Interestingly, Moises Caicedo — who was sent off in the very same game — also interacted with the message.

Argentina, already confirmed as table-toppers in South America’s qualifying group, sit comfortably with 38 points from 18 matches, holding a strong lead over Ecuador in second place.

CONMEBOL standings (Top 5):

1️⃣ Argentina – 38 pts
2️⃣ Ecuador – 29 pts
3️⃣ Colombia – 28 pts
4️⃣ Uruguay – 28 pts
5️⃣ Brazil – 28 pts

Meanwhile, away from international duty, Liverpool are bracing themselves for a tough transfer battle. Reports suggest Manchester City are preparing to rival the Reds for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who is expected to be available on a free transfer next summer.
