Liverpool, 22 November 2025 – Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk did not mince words after the Reds suffered a shocking 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Goals from Murillo, Nicolo Savona, and Morgan Gibbs-White handed Forest a memorable victory, marking the second consecutive season they’ve taken all three points from Liverpool at home. The defeat also extends Liverpool’s worrying run, with six losses in just seven league matches.
Even with key players like Alexander Isak, Mohamed Salah, and a returning Alisson in the starting lineup, Arne Slot’s side struggled to convert possession into meaningful chances against Sean Dyche’s organized Forest team.
The loss has dropped Liverpool to 11th in the Premier League, while Forest climbed to 16th, securing their third win of the season. Notably, this marks the first time since 1965 that Liverpool have suffered consecutive league defeats by three or more goals, and it is also their joint-heaviest Premier League defeat at Anfield. Defensively, the Reds have now conceded 20 goals in just 12 league matches, a level not seen since 1992.
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, Van Dijk didn’t shy away from holding his teammates accountable. He described Liverpool’s performance as “rushed” and said the squad fell short in key areas like “battles, challenges, and the fight.”
> “Everyone in the team has to take responsibility,” Van Dijk said. “Football is a team sport. We need to digest this result and work harder. This is a problem we have to address together.”
The Dutch defender also reflected on the disappointment of losing at home to a side like Nottingham Forest:
> “Everyone is disappointed, as they should be. The goals we conceded were far too easy, and we all need to look in the mirror. I’ve been at this club through thick and thin. We will bounce back, but it doesn’t happen overnight. I’m not a quitter, and we will keep pushing.”
Van Dijk further commented on the fans leaving early during the match, acknowledging their frustration but stressing loyalty moving forward:
> “I can’t decide what supporters do when they leave early. Our fans have always been there for us, and they will continue to support us as we work to recover from this.”
Liverpool will return to European action against PSV at Anfield on 26 November before traveling to face West Ham in the Premier League on 30 November.
