Van Dijk Reflects on Liverpool’s Defeat to Galatasaray
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has shared his thoughts following back-to-back losses against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, admitting that while results have been disappointing, there were signs of progress in their latest outing.
The Dutch defender made it clear that defeat is never acceptable but felt the team showed more effort compared to their previous performance.
> “I can’t stand losing, and of course there’s no need to panic, but there’s still plenty of work to be done. Against Galatasaray, the fight and work rate were better than at the weekend — but that wasn’t hard, because our display against Palace just wasn’t good enough.”
Van Dijk acknowledged that Liverpool must cut out mistakes if they want to bounce back.
> “We need to be more clinical with our chances, avoid giving away silly penalties, and stop gifting goals. Saying it is easy — making it happen is the real challenge.”
He also addressed the narrative surrounding new arrivals at Anfield, insisting that the responsibility lies with the whole squad, not just recent signings.
> “It’s not only about the new players. Maybe too much attention is on them at times, but building understanding takes time. We’ll keep working, stick together, and look forward to the next game. That’s all we can do.”
