As Hugo Ekitike edges closer to a sensational switch to Liverpool, past remarks from French football legend Thierry Henry about the young striker are making waves again.

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt for Ekitike, with the total deal valued at £79 million. This comes just days after Premier League rivals Newcastle made their interest known. Now, Ekitike is set to join a growing list of rising stars—including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez—as the reigning champions bolster their squad for the new season.

👀 But what did Thierry Henry really think of Ekitike?

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, former defender Micah Richards recalled conversations with Henry about the French forward. According to Richards, the Arsenal icon had mixed feelings:

> “Thierry doesn’t find him frustrating exactly, but he did say Ekitike can look brilliant one minute and then fail to do the basics the next,” Richards revealed.

Henry reportedly acknowledged that Ekitike has massive potential—but consistency remains a key issue. If he manages to polish his game and maintain form, Henry believes the 23-year-old could have an incredibly high ceiling.

⚽ With his Anfield arrival imminent, all eyes will now be on whether Ekitike can unlock that potential in a red shirt.
