Liverpool are reportedly making moves to secure long-term deals for two key figures in their squad, as manager Arne Slot looks to strengthen his core midfield. Here’s the latest from the Reds’ camp.
Harvey Elliott Loan Sparks Recall Talk
Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Aston Villa hasn’t gone as smoothly as anticipated. The 22-year-old midfielder has started just twice in seven appearances and hasn’t featured for Unai Emery’s side over the past month.
Elliott joined Villa on a loan with a £35 million obligation to buy, but former Villa CEO Keith Wyness has suggested Liverpool could bring him back before the deal is finalized.
“I’m surprised because he’s clearly talented, but he hasn’t impressed Emery as expected,” Wyness told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
“There’s also a theory circulating: if Elliott plays ten games, it triggers the purchase clause. With Liverpool having issues in midfield, it seems some fans would prefer him on the bench rather than some of the pricier signings.”
Reds Moving on Double Deal
Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly close to finalizing contract talks with midfield duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. Both players joined the Reds in 2023 and have become central to Slot’s plans.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims discussions with Szoboszlai are progressing, with Liverpool ready to increase the 25-year-old’s wages to reflect his rising role in the squad.
Both Szoboszlai and Gravenberch still have around two-and-a-half years left on their current contracts, but the club is keen to lock them in for the long term. Gravenberch, in particular, proved vital during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, thriving in a deep-lying midfield role.
