Liverpool’s summer chase for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi might not be over just yet.

The Reds came close to landing the England international during the last transfer window, with reports suggesting he even underwent a medical ahead of a proposed switch to Anfield. However, Palace pulled the plug at the final moment, leaving the defender frustrated and stuck in South London.

With Guehi’s contract running down and his future looking increasingly uncertain, Sky Sports have now provided a fresh twist that could reignite Liverpool’s interest.

According to reporter Tom White, Palace are beginning to accept that keeping their captain long-term will be nearly impossible. The broadcaster revealed that the club understands Guehi’s time at Selhurst Park is nearing its end, with the player himself staying composed as he weighs up his next move.

It’s a situation that plays right into Liverpool’s hands. The Merseyside giants, now hit with the devastating ACL injury to young centre-back Giovanni Leoni, are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements ahead of the winter window.

White reminded fans that Guehi’s deadline-day switch collapsed at around £35m, but January could finally bring a breakthrough. Palace would be under pressure to cash in mid-season rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

For Liverpool boss Arne Slot, this update is a huge boost. If the Reds move quickly, what was once a near-miss could become a shrewd and timely signing to steady their backline.
