Liverpool have now locked in the exact day Mohamed Salah will head off for AFCON duty — ending days of whispers and conflicting reports about an early exit.
For weeks, fans worried the Egyptian superstar might leave before the Brighton match, especially with Egypt scheduled to face Nigeria in a friendly on December 14. But Arne Slot has officially cleared the air.
Speaking in his Tuesday press conference ahead of the Sunderland clash, the Liverpool boss confirmed:
👉 Salah will begin his international journey on December 15.
That means the 33-year-old will be available for the Brighton fixture before flying out to chase the one trophy that has painfully escaped him twice — after falling short in both the 2017 and 2021 AFCON finals.
Slot also didn’t shy away from addressing Salah’s reaction to being benched during the 2–0 win over West Ham. According to the manager, the forward wasn’t thrilled — and understandably so — but his professionalism never wavered.
Slot explained that Salah’s frustration was “normal for someone eager to contribute,” adding that he wasn’t the only player disappointed to miss out. Despite that, the Egyptian king remained supportive on the sidelines and handled the situation exactly as expected from a seasoned leader.
Slot wrapped it up by praising Salah’s discipline, noting that a player who performs at such a high level every three days can only do so by controlling his emotions and maintaining elite standards.
