Ismaila Sarr opened the scoring for the hosts before Federico Chiesa equalised late on. Just as it looked like Liverpool would extend their unbeaten start under Arne Slot, Eddie Nketiah struck in the 97th minute to seal a famous win for Palace.
Glasner praised the energy and belief of his side:
> “The first half was the best football we’ve played since I came here. Against the champions, you know they’ll always push back, but the players held their nerve.”
Liverpool had Alisson to thank for keeping them in the game during the opening 45 minutes, but their late fightback collapsed after a defensive lapse. A crucial mistake at the back — where one Liverpool defender misjudged his clearance — opened the door for Palace to snatch the winner.
Glasner admitted Palace were under heavy pressure after Chiesa’s equaliser but applauded the response of his team:
> “Many times when you concede that late, the momentum changes completely. But we stayed calm and got our reward.”
The win stretched Palace’s unbeaten run to 18 matches, but Glasner was quick to remind his squad not to become fixated on streaks:
> “We don’t just want to ‘stay unbeaten’. The mentality is to win games. If it ends in a draw or even a loss, we accept it — but the approach is always to attack.”
Meanwhile, Arne Slot didn’t hide his frustration at Liverpool’s defending, admitting Palace deserved to be more than one goal ahead at half-time. He also pointed out that his side’s late equaliser should have been enough to steady the match — if not for the costly defensive error that handed Palace their dramatic winner.
