Liverpool have confirmed that Lewis Koumas has joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan, with the young forward already completing his medical ahead of the move.
The 19-year-old, who made his senior debut for the Reds in a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Southampton during the 2023/24 campaign, will now continue his development in the Championship. Koumas has also broken into the Wales national team, earning six caps to date.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano first revealed the deal on Friday morning, with both clubs later confirming the agreement. Speaking after the announcement, Koumas expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead:

Birmingham City return to the Championship this season after storming League One with 111 points last term, and they’ve started strongly again, collecting four points from their opening two fixtures.

The teenager spent last season on loan at Stoke City, where he impressed with his adaptability and work rate. Over the 2024/25 campaign, he notched six goals and three assists across 49 appearances — a solid return for a player still honing his game.
What stood out most, however, was his versatility. Koumas was deployed in seven different roles, ranging from left and right wing to centre-forward, even filling in as an attacking midfielder when required. That flexibility could prove invaluable for Birmingham as they aim for promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2011.
