Questions are once again being asked about Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Liverpool, with reports indicating that clubs from Saudi Arabia have reignited their pursuit of the Egyptian superstar.

Salah remains a towering figure at Anfield after years of outstanding service, but his recent form has sparked debate. Several Saudi Pro League sides are believed to be closely monitoring his situation, encouraged by what has been an uncharacteristic downturn in performances this season.

Now 33, the forward is experiencing what many see as the first genuine slump of his Liverpool career. His output this campaign has fallen short of the remarkably high standards he has consistently maintained since arriving on Merseyside. According to talkSPORT, teams including Al Hilal and Al Qadsiah continue to view him as a marquee signing and are prepared to make another move.

What makes the situation more intriguing is that Salah is reported to have previously rejected an extremely lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, choosing instead to remain with Liverpool and compete at the highest level. That decision highlighted his commitment to the club, at least in the short term.

Uncertainty surrounded Salah as recently as last season, when many expected him to leave before he eventually committed his future by signing a new deal late in the campaign. That move eased fears among supporters, who saw it as a guarantee that one of the club’s modern greats would stay on.

However, circumstances have shifted. Salah has scored only twice in his last 12 appearances, and concerns over his form were underlined when he started on the bench during Liverpool’s recent away victory over West Ham.

For a player once tipped to follow a Cristiano Ronaldo–style path of elite performance deep into his thirties, the sudden dip has come as a surprise. It has fuelled speculation that he could yet be tempted by the financial power of Saudi clubs, especially with the promise of massive wages and a less physically demanding league.

Should Salah eventually move on, Liverpool would face the enormous task of replacing him. Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has been frequently mentioned due to his impressive displays this season, while Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise — formerly of Crystal Palace — is another name admired across the Premier League. Either would add quality to Arne Slot’s attack, but matching Salah’s influence would be no small feat.

Salah’s record speaks for itself: 250 goals in 419 appearances for Liverpool. Those numbers alone highlight just how difficult it would be for the club to truly replace a player of his stature.
