Mohamed Salah has finally reacted following strong comments from Jamie Carragher and public remarks made by Arne Slot and Alisson Becker in the fallout from his explosive interview ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League trip to Inter Milan.
The Egyptian forward, Liverpool’s leading Premier League goalscorer, sparked widespread debate over the weekend after openly suggesting he had been unfairly made a scapegoat by the club. Frustration had been building after he was named on the bench for a third consecutive match, and following the dramatic 3–3 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road, Salah chose to speak directly to reporters in the mixed zone.
During that exchange, he made it clear he felt singled out, insisting it was “obvious that someone wanted me to take all the blame.” He also revealed that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had completely broken down.
As tensions escalated, Salah was omitted from the travelling squad for Tuesday night’s Champions League fixture. Slot and goalkeeper Alisson Becker were both questioned extensively about the situation during the pre-match press conference.
However, the most cutting reaction came from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher launched a fierce critique of Salah’s conduct, labelling it a “disgrace” in a blunt on-air assessment.
Salah’s response arrived the following morning — not through words, but imagery. He posted a mirror selfie from the gym at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, showing himself training alone. The image was shared on both X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, quickly drawing attention from current and former teammates.
Trent Alexander-Arnold acknowledged the post, while ex-captain Jordan Henderson reacted with a heart emoji. Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, a close friend of Salah, also commented, writing: “The only way to deal with injustice is to fight with all our strength.”
Slot Addresses the Situation
During Monday evening’s press conference, questions surrounding Salah dominated proceedings to such an extent that Liverpool’s media officer eventually had to bring the discussion to a halt after around ten minutes.
Slot confirmed that communication between himself and Salah has been minimal since the Leeds match.
“We informed him that he wouldn’t be travelling,” the Liverpool boss explained. “That has been the only contact.”
While Slot acknowledged that Salah’s reaction to the decision was brief, he stressed that the forward is entitled to his feelings. Still, he admitted being taken aback by the public nature of Salah’s comments, noting that the club felt compelled to act quickly in response.
Salah will not feature against Inter Milan, but Slot has not ruled out a return. The 33-year-old could yet be involved in Liverpool’s clash with Brighton — potentially his final appearance before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
