Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby wasn’t just about goals and tactics — it was also about motivation, leadership, and the unseen impact of one of Anfield’s senior figures.

The Reds came out on top in the 247th meeting between the two clubs, with Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike getting on the scoresheet in the first half. Everton tried to mount a comeback through Idrissa Gueye, but Jürgen Klopp’s men held on to secure the three points and maintain their strong Premier League form.

But behind the scenes, there was another story unfolding.

Robertson’s Push That Made the Difference 👊

Young full-back Milos Kerkez admitted that Andy Robertson gave him the spark he needed ahead of the derby clash.

“Our understanding is really good,” Kerkez explained. “Before the game, he told me to go out there and just play like I did last season. That little bit of encouragement pushed me. After the final whistle, he congratulated me and told me to keep working hard.”

A Legend Still Driving the Team 🚀

Kerkez didn’t hold back his admiration for the Scottish defender, calling him a “legend” who has achieved everything at the top level but still brings quality and leadership to the squad.

“He’s won it all and still competes at the highest level,” Kerkez continued. “This is Liverpool — competition is everywhere. He pushes me, I push him, and that’s what you need in a big club.”

Adapting Under New Instructions 🎯

The Hungarian youngster also revealed he was given slightly more freedom against Everton, following specific instructions from the manager.

“I’m playing in a slightly different way, but I’m adjusting. On Saturday, I had more freedom because that’s what the coach wanted. My job is to carry out those instructions in every match.”

🔥 With competition for places heating up, it seems Robertson’s influence off the pitch is proving just as valuable as his performances on it. And for Kerkez, that push might just be the fuel that keeps him rising at Anfield.
