Medical Completed: Liverpool Edge Closer to Sealing £60m Deal

Liverpool appear to be closing in on another major addition, with fresh reports suggesting Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet has already completed his medical ahead of a big-money move to Anfield.
The highly rated 20-year-old defender has been one of the most talked-about young talents in Europe this winter, attracting attention from several top clubs. However, Liverpool now seem to have surged ahead in the race after arranging — and completing — the crucial medical stage of the transfer.
Jacquet Medical Done as Summer Move Nears 🔴
According to respected Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, Jacquet has successfully undergone his medical with Liverpool. The deal is believed to be structured as a £60 million package, with around £55 million paid upfront.
While the agreement is progressing smoothly, the plan is for Jacquet to remain at Rennes until the end of the current season, before officially linking up with Arne Slot’s squad in the summer.
With this step completed, the transfer now looks to be entering its final stages.
Liverpool Win the Race Ahead of Chelsea
Chelsea were also strongly linked with Jacquet earlier in the window, as confirmed by Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol. However, Rennes were firm on their stance that the defender would not leave mid-season.
That condition ultimately played into Liverpool’s hands. The Reds were prepared to wait, while Chelsea were pushing for immediate reinforcements — a factor that reportedly stalled their pursuit.
As a result, Chelsea opted to recall Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at Strasbourg instead.
A Statement Signing for the Future 🛡️
Liverpool supporters will be encouraged by how decisively the club moved to secure one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs. Jacquet’s arrival would strengthen the squad long-term, especially with Virgil van Dijk advancing in age and Ibrahima Konaté’s contract situation approaching a critical point.
For Arne Slot, this deal looks less about the present — and more about building the defensive core of Liverpool’s future.
If all goes to plan, Anfield may soon welcome a defender many believe is destined for the very top. 🔥
