Bayern Munich star Luis Díaz has been handed a three-game Champions League suspension by UEFA after his early dismissal in the club’s recent clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
The decision follows UEFA’s ruling that the Colombian winger’s challenge on Achraf Hakimi — which occurred in first-half stoppage time during Bayern’s 2–1 victory at the Parc des Princes — amounted to “serious rough play.”
Díaz had produced a dramatic performance on the night, striking twice to put Bayern ahead before his evening took a turn when the referee showed him a straight red card.
With the ban now confirmed, Díaz will be sidelined for Bayern’s next European trips and home fixtures, including:
Arsenal (away) on Wednesday
Sporting CP (home) on December 9
Union Saint-Gilloise (home) on January 21
Hakimi, meanwhile, is expected to be out for several weeks as a result of the tackle.
Despite the setback, Bayern remain in a strong Champions League position, sitting at the top of the group after winning all four of their matches so far.
Díaz has quickly become a major figure in Vincent Kompany’s squad since joining from Liverpool in the summer, already producing 11 goals and seven assists in just 17 appearances. His arrival coincided with Bayern’s blistering start to the campaign, where they won their opening 16 matches across all competitions before being held to a 2–2 draw by Union Berlin.
Kompany also faces a fresh injury worry, with Serge Gnabry returning from international duty with a muscle issue after playing the full match in Germany’s 6–0 win over Slovakia. The Bayern boss admitted on Friday that Gnabry is unlikely to feature in this weekend’s Bundesliga meeting with Freiburg but could return shortly after.
