Luis Diaz’s time at Anfield appears to be drawing to a close, with fresh updates suggesting the Colombian winger may be on the verge of departing Liverpool.
Since arriving from Porto in January 2022 for a fee reported to be around £37.5 million, Diaz has dazzled fans with flashes of brilliance but struggled with consistency. However, he found his best form yet in the 2024–25 season, notching 17 goals and eight assists across 50 appearances.
Despite the club’s desire to keep hold of the 28-year-old, strong interest from European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Barcelona has thrown his future into doubt. Talks have reportedly taken place in recent weeks, and sources claim the player is open to a new challenge.
Liverpool recently rejected a £58 million bid from Bayern, but the Bundesliga champions are expected to return with an improved offer worth around €80 million (£69 million). Although manager Arne Slot had initially made it clear Diaz was not for sale, it’s understood that such a significant bid could change the club’s stance.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements appears to be nearing completion. Hugo Ekitike, who impressed with 22 goals and 12 assists last season for Eintracht Frankfurt, is set to join the Reds in a deal believed to be worth £79 million. The 23-year-old underwent a medical in London earlier this week, with official confirmation expected imminently.
Should the Ekitike transfer go through, it could pave the way for Diaz’s exit, with Liverpool potentially using the funds from his sale to help offset their busy summer spending. The Reds have already invested heavily, securing the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman — pushing their total outlay close to £300 million.
With Diaz reportedly holding talks behind the scenes and Bayern Munich preparing their next move, the coming days could be decisive in determining whether the winger’s Anfield chapter comes to an end.
