Liverpool’s Selection Headache: Isak Arrival Puts Star Forward at Risk 😱

Arne Slot’s dream start to life at Liverpool may soon come with a brutal dilemma. The Reds have stormed through their opening Premier League fixtures, winning all three games and netting eight goals in the process. But with Alexander Isak now added to the attack, one man’s future in the starting XI looks far from secure.

Liverpool’s summer business was aggressive, bringing in Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and most recently, Isak. While Wirtz is still finding his feet in England, Ekitike has been quick to make an impact—scoring twice in his first three league appearances. Yet his place could already be under threat.

Football pundit Julien Laurens explained the problem: both Ekitike and Isak play with similar profiles—tall, technical, and dangerous in central positions. And while Ekitike has shown flashes of promise, Laurens believes Isak offers a more complete package.

“You feel a bit for Ekitike,” Laurens admitted. “He arrived to be the main man, but now that Isak is here, it’s only a matter of time before the balance shifts.”

Slot could experiment by pushing Ekitike wide, something the Frenchman has done before, but that would mean dislodging Cody Gakpo—currently one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers. Gakpo already has three goal contributions this season and looks undroppable on the left.

That leaves Slot with an uncomfortable truth: either gamble with his system or eventually sacrifice the in-form Ekitike for Isak’s proven quality. And for a squad chasing silverware on all fronts, the decision could shape Liverpool’s entire campaign.

💭 One thing is clear—Ekitike’s fight for survival in Liverpool’s starting XI has only just begun.
