Liverpool’s ambition to strengthen their attacking line-up this summer has encountered a significant setback. Despite strong interest in Newcastle United’s prolific forward Alexander Isak, fresh reports suggest that any potential move is now off the table.
Isak, who impressed many — including Liverpool’s top brass — during the Carabao Cup final clash earlier this year, has long been admired by the Reds as a potential successor to Darwin Núñez. However, renowned journalist David Ornstein has now revealed that Newcastle have no intentions of letting their star striker leave.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Today podcast, Ornstein stated:
> “Newcastle have made it clear — Alexander Isak is not for sale. They are keen to keep him and hope he’ll extend his stay at the club. Of course, clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal have shown interest, but the Magpies won’t entertain offers. Even if they did, the price being discussed is astronomical — somewhere around £150 million.”
While Arsenal have shifted their focus to more budget-friendly alternatives like Viktor Gyökeres of Sporting, Liverpool now face a critical decision. With Isak seemingly off-limits, the Merseyside club may need to redirect their efforts toward other forwards.
One such alternative is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. The young striker has drawn attention from multiple Premier League sides, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Liverpool’s interest in him is genuine, labeling a deal as a potential “possibility.”
As Arne Slot pushes for a marquee attacking addition, a reported €100 million budget has been earmarked for the right player. Whether that player will be Ekitike, Osimhen, or another rising talent remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: Alexander Isak will not be donning the red shirt of Liverpool anytime soon.
