Rumours surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s next move are heating up once again, and Liverpool may soon be forced into a major call regarding the defender’s future.

The French centre-back, who enters the final months of his current contract, has yet to make meaningful progress in negotiations with the club. With talks stalling since the summer, many around Anfield are beginning to accept that a departure now feels increasingly likely.

Despite ongoing discussions, Liverpool’s inability to lock down an extension has opened the door for European giants like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who are closely monitoring the situation.

Recent reports indicate that Konate edging towards an exit is no longer just speculation. While the expectation has been that he would sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere for a summer switch, January could bring a very different scenario.

According to insiders, Liverpool may be prepared to listen to substantial offers once the mid-season window opens — especially if they can secure a replacement before the season ends. With concerns about aspects of Konate’s performances resurfacing, some within the club believe an upgrade is possible.

Recruitment discussions are already underway, and Liverpool’s search for alternatives appears focused and deliberate. Marc Guehi remains the standout target, after coming close to an Anfield move on deadline day. Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa is also being considered, though any January deal for him would be nearly impossible due to his importance under Unai Emery.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has already admitted that Guehi is expected to leave the club next summer, which only adds fuel to speculation surrounding Liverpool’s defensive rebuild.

For now, all eyes turn to January — and whether a tempting bid will push Liverpool into making a decisive call on Konate sooner than planned.
