Liverpool’s title defence has hit a worrying slump, and club legend Robbie Fowler believes the solution lies in the upcoming January transfer window. After a shaky start that includes five defeats in their first 11 Premier League matches, the champions find themselves down in eighth place, eight points off league leaders Arsenal.

With the Reds preparing to face Nottingham Forest this weekend, Fowler insists there’s still time to turn things around — but only if two major areas are strengthened.

According to the former striker, Liverpool’s summer spending heavily boosted their attack, but the team is still missing two crucial pieces:
1️⃣ A disciplined defensive midfielder
2️⃣ A reliable centre-back

Fowler argues that midfield talents like Mac Allister, Gravenberch, and Szoboszlai are impressive going forward but often leave the team exposed. He believes the squad needs a proper anchorman — someone in the mould of Fabinho — to bring stability and protect the back line.

On the defensive end, he warns that Liverpool are one injury away from serious trouble. Fowler referenced Liverpool’s failed deadline-day bid for Marc Guehi, expressing hope the club will return with another move for the Crystal Palace star, especially with his contract running down.

He also mentioned Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund as another option, with the German defender reportedly reluctant to sign a new deal.

Fowler’s message is clear:

👉 Bring in a dependable centre-half.
