Liverpool have made it clear they are standing by Mohamed Salah, despite the growing noise surrounding his future at Anfield and his eye-catching absence from the squad for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan.
Salah’s omission from the travelling group was not a last-minute call. Reports suggest the decision was reached collectively by head coach Arne Slot and senior figures within the club, following a period of strain between the Egyptian star and the coaching team.
At 33, Salah finds himself in unfamiliar territory. After nearly a decade as Liverpool’s attacking centerpiece, he is now navigating one of the most turbulent phases of his Anfield career, sidelined during a season filled with uncertainty and internal tension.
No plans to cash in on Salah
Despite the speculation, Liverpool’s position remains unchanged. According to reports, the club have no intention of parting ways with Salah and are prepared for him to remain until his current contract expires in 2027.
Fenway Sports Group are said to be firmly against any January sale, believing Salah’s importance goes beyond what happens on the pitch. Club executives reportedly see him as a cornerstone of Liverpool’s global brand and commercial identity, even as his role under Slot becomes more complex.
The situation escalated further after Liverpool’s dramatic 3–3 draw with Leeds United, when Salah delivered a fiery post-match interview, claiming he had been “thrown under the bus” by individuals within the club — comments that intensified scrutiny on his relationship with the new coaching regime.
Liverpool backing Slot — but treading carefully
Behind the scenes, Liverpool’s hierarchy are understood to be fully supportive of Arne Slot, while also working carefully to manage the Salah situation without causing further disruption inside the dressing room.
Meanwhile, interest from the Saudi Pro League has resurfaced. Al-Hilal are reportedly monitoring developments closely, ready to act should Liverpool’s stance soften.
For now, however, Liverpool’s message is unmistakable: whatever the tension, whatever the headlines, they are not prepared to let one of the defining figures of their modern era slip away quietly. 🔴⚽
