Liverpool Seal £60m Deal as Ornstein Reveals Major Transfer Update
Liverpool have reached an agreement worth around £60 million to secure the signature of highly rated Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, with the news first revealed by respected journalist David Ornstein.
The Reds have moved decisively in the market following their failure to land Marc Guehi last summer. The former Crystal Palace centre-back instead completed a move to Manchester City earlier this month, forcing Liverpool to accelerate plans for a long-term defensive solution.
Jacquet, just 20 years old, has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season in Ligue 1, making 18 league appearances for Rennes. Club officials reportedly see him as a key part of Liverpool’s future core, alongside recent additions such as Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Milos Kerkez.
According to Ornstein, the deal is structured as £55 million upfront with a further £5 million in performance-related add-ons. However, the French defender will remain at Rennes until the end of the 2025/26 season, joining Liverpool officially in the summer.
The France U21 international is expected to travel to the north west of England on Monday to complete formalities. He will reportedly sign a contract running until 2030, with Liverpool holding an option to extend the deal by an additional year.
Liverpool also appear to have fended off serious competition from Arsenal, who had been monitoring Jacquet closely following his standout loan spell at Clermont Foot in Ligue 2.
If all proceeds as planned, the move represents another statement of intent from Arne Slot’s Liverpool as they continue to build for both immediate success and long-term dominance.
