Speaking on the uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future, Ornstein suggested the situation feels similar to other recent contract-related sagas where public clarity has been limited. However, behind the scenes, Liverpool’s position appears firm.
According to Ornstein, the Reds are determined to keep Salah not only through the January transfer window but also beyond, with plans for him to remain at the club at least until the end of the season. Salah’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, and Liverpool believe they made a strong statement of intent by handing him a lucrative renewal earlier this year.
From the club’s perspective, they feel they have already demonstrated how highly they value the Egyptian international. Any current tension, Ornstein explains, is understood internally to stem from Salah’s desire for assurances over consistent playing time.
That, however, is where Liverpool are unwilling to compromise. While Salah’s legendary status at Anfield is undisputed, the club are not prepared to offer guaranteed minutes to any player, regardless of reputation.
This disagreement is believed to sit at the core of ongoing discussions, which head coach Arne Slot previously confirmed began before Liverpool’s clash with Leeds.
For now, Liverpool’s stance is clear: Salah remains a key part of their plans, and the club fully expect him to stay put.
