Liverpool are preparing for a dramatic squad overhaul this summer, with SunSport reporting that Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister, Federico Chiesa, and Joe Gomez will all be made available for sale — while Andy Robertson is set to depart after captaining Scotland at the World Cup.

The scale of the rebuild is significant. Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires on June 1 and Liverpool have all but given up on keeping the France centre-back, while Mohamed Salah’s departure is already confirmed. Curtis Jones’s future is also uncertain.

The clearout comes against a backdrop of growing concern at Fenway Sports Group over Arne Slot’s position — his contract has one year remaining and talks over a new deal are on hold, with reports linking Xabi Alonso as a potential replacement. FSG are also anxious over whether chief executive of football Michael Edwards could be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia.

On the recruitment front, a holding midfielder is the priority. Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson are all under consideration, as is Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga — available for £43 million and also a target for Arsenal.

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, a boyhood Liverpool fan, remains a major target despite an £80 million price tag. Intriguingly, should Alonso take over, he is reported to want Real Madrid’s Arda Guler — with Mac Allister’s potential exit creating the space in midfield.

Liverpool spent £426 million last summer after winning the Premier League title, yet Slot publicly complained the squad lacked depth — comments that went down poorly with FSG.
