Liverpool’s hierarchy has reportedly taken a clear position following Mohamed Salah’s explosive post-match comments after the dramatic 3–3 draw with Leeds United.
The Reds saw a two-goal cushion evaporate at Elland Road, with Hugo Ekitike’s rapid double and Ao Tanaka’s stoppage-time strike cancelling out Dominik Szoboszlai’s effort. But the action on the pitch was overshadowed by what came afterward.
Salah, left unused on the bench, stunned supporters with a fiery interview claiming he had been “thrown under the bus” and hinting at a broken relationship with head coach Arne Slot. The timing immediately raised eyebrows, especially with Liverpool struggling for form and external pressure increasing on Slot.
Despite the turbulence, Fenway Sports Group is standing firmly behind their manager, according to a report from Paul Joyce of The Times. The club’s owners want Slot to steer the team out of its slump and have shown no indication of backing away from him — even as frustrations around the squad intensify.
Joyce notes that while patience won’t last forever, Slot’s future will be determined by results, not by Salah’s public frustration or his absence from the starting lineup.
Liverpool have suffered nine defeats in their last 15 matches across all competitions, including heavy losses to rivals such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. Salah, meanwhile, has started the last three games on the bench and managed just five goals this season.
His appearances have dwindled: no start against West Ham, only a second-half introduction versus Sunderland, and no involvement at all in the Leeds fixture.
With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching on December 15, the 33-year-old shocked supporters further by suggesting that next weekend’s clash with Brighton might be his final Liverpool match, despite signing a new two-year deal earlier in the year.
Liverpool now turn their attention to next Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Inter Milan as tension around the club continues to grow.
