Liverpool’s extraordinary summer spending spree is about to hit new heights, with Marc Guehi expected to join Alexander Isak in sealing last-minute switches to Anfield.

Talks with Crystal Palace have intensified after the Reds saw their £35 million opening bid for Guehi knocked back on Saturday. Sources suggest only minor changes to the structure of add-ons are needed to secure an agreement, with confidence growing that the England defender will be unveiled before Monday night’s deadline.

This follows Liverpool’s record-breaking £125 million agreement with Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak. The Swedish forward, 25, is due to complete a medical on Monday ahead of signing a six-year deal. The club’s medical staff are already preparing for two assessments, with Guehi also set to undergo tests as soon as terms with Palace are finalised.

The 25-year-old centre-back has already reached a personal agreement with Liverpool and was given clearance by Palace to explore a transfer once their Europa Conference League qualifier and final league match before the international break had been completed. Palace, who value him at £40m, have reluctantly accepted that Guehi will not extend his current contract, which expires in June next year.

If both signings are confirmed, Liverpool’s total summer outlay will rocket past £400m, eclipsing all previous Premier League spending records. The likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giovanni Leoni have already arrived on Merseyside, transforming Arne Slot’s squad.

The wave of incomings could spell uncertainty for Ibrahima Konaté, who has started all three of Liverpool’s opening league matches but struggled for consistency. Despite improving against Arsenal on Sunday, he was forced off with an injury that Slot initially described as “cramp” but admitted might be more serious. With contract talks breaking down and Real Madrid reportedly circling, Konaté’s future could be the biggest question mark once Guehi’s signing is sealed.
