Liverpool Football Club has issued a fresh statement after the man responsible for a devastating crash at the club’s Premier League title parade admitted to all charges against him.
The incident happened on May 26, when thousands of supporters filled the streets to celebrate Liverpool’s league triumph. The celebration was abruptly halted when 54-year-old Paul Doyle drove his vehicle into the crowd, injuring dozens.
Doyle—who previously denied the allegations—changed his plea in court and accepted responsibility for 31 offences. These include dangerous driving, affray, multiple counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, and several charges of causing serious injury with intent. The victims ranged from a six-month-old baby to a 77-year-old.

In their official reaction, the club reflected on what was meant to be a historic celebration:
The club noted that the parade had offered fans a long-awaited chance to celebrate together, especially after the 2020 restrictions. Liverpool expressed hopes that the conviction would offer “some comfort” to everyone harmed by the shocking event.
They also praised the emergency services and members of the public whose quick actions prevented an even greater tragedy, describing their response as a true reflection of the spirit of the city.
Court Details
A jury had already been selected, but Doyle unexpectedly changed his plea as the prosecution was preparing to present its case. He will be sentenced over a two-day hearing scheduled for December 15 and 16.
Prosecutors described his actions as an act of “deliberate and calculated violence.” According to evidence presented, Doyle drove his Ford Galaxy directly into the densely packed crowd, colliding with around 100 people. Officials said it was only luck that prevented any fatalities.
Witness accounts and dashcam footage showed Doyle appearing agitated before forcing his way into the crowd, choosing to drive on rather than wait for supporters to clear the road.
