Liverpool’s injury troubles have deepened just before their crucial Champions League encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt. Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was notably absent from Tuesday’s open training session after picking up an ankle injury in the defeat to Manchester United.
The Dutch star appeared to twist his ankle during a challenge with Bryan Mbeumo early in the second half at Anfield. Though he initially tried to continue, he was eventually substituted around the hour mark as Liverpool suffered a 2–1 loss — their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.
After the game, manager Arne Slot confirmed the injury was the reason for Gravenberch’s withdrawal, saying the player would need to be assessed before the team’s midweek trip to Germany. However, his absence from training suggests he’s unlikely to feature against Frankfurt.
There was, however, some positive news for the Reds. Wataru Endo returned to full training after missing the Manchester United clash with a hamstring issue that also forced him out of Japan’s recent international fixtures. Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister trained as well, despite sustaining a head wound that required stitches during Sunday’s defeat.
With Gravenberch doubtful, both Mac Allister and Curtis Jones could be in contention to take up the holding midfield role when Liverpool face Eintracht Frankfurt. Slot is expected to provide a full fitness update in his pre-match press conference later in the evening.
