Liverpool are reportedly preparing to ramp up their pursuit of a top-tier striker once Luis Diaz’s expected departure becomes official — and their sights are firmly set on Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
According to transfer insider Pipe Sierra, the Reds are ready to push for Isak as soon as Diaz’s transfer is finalized. With journalist Paul Joyce confirming an agreement has been reached for the Colombian winger to leave Anfield, Liverpool could soon launch a high-profile bid.
The Telegraph reports that Liverpool are considering a British-record offer worth around £120 million for Isak. However, the situation may be more complicated than expected. Newcastle United’s Saudi-backed ownership — including the Public Investment Fund and chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan — are reportedly handling Isak’s future directly, bypassing manager Eddie Howe.
That power dynamic could make negotiations challenging, especially since Newcastle are said to value the Swedish forward at over £150 million.
But recent developments at St. James’ Park might open the door for a deal. Reports claim Isak’s unexplained absence from Newcastle’s pre-season tour has caused confusion among players. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes added fuel to the fire, suggesting Isak was in Newcastle due to injury, but gave little further detail.
Meanwhile, despite the recent arrival of striker Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool are still keen on adding another forward to their ranks. Manager Arne Slot is believed to be pushing for one final attacking addition — and Isak, who famously starred in the Carabao Cup final against the Reds, is said to be his ideal choice.
With Diaz on the brink of joining Bayern Munich, all eyes will be on how quickly Liverpool move to turn their ambition into action.
