Liverpool’s pursuit of Marc Guehi could intensify in the coming days, with fresh reports suggesting that the Reds may only press harder for the defender if a specific scenario unfolds.
According to BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel, talks between Crystal Palace and interested clubs were already expected to pick up pace as the transfer deadline edges closer. Palace are bracing for change, with Eberechi Eze already lined up for a £68m switch to Arsenal.
On Wednesday night, Palace boss Oliver Glasner confirmed that both Eze and Guehi would start their crucial Europa Conference League qualifier against Norwegian side Fredrikstad. The outcome of that clash could heavily influence the England international’s immediate future.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed that Liverpool’s stance may shift if Palace secure a commanding win in the first leg.
> “If Palace win comfortably tonight and are virtually through before the return leg, Liverpool might look to step up their interest in Guehi and return with an improved offer in the next couple of days,” he explained.
Such a scenario would leave the south London side with a decision to make. Palace chairman Steve Parish has already made it clear that Guehi will not be allowed to run down his contract and leave for free next summer, opening the door to a potential sale before the window shuts.
⏳ Time Ticking for a Decision
With Fredrikstad only recently climbing out of Norway’s second tier and returning to European football for the first time since 2009, Palace are overwhelming favourites. Should they all but secure qualification in the first leg, Guehi’s availability could suddenly become a lot more realistic for Liverpool.
The stumbling block remains valuation — reports claim there’s currently a £10m gap between what Liverpool are willing to pay and Palace’s asking price. Still, with Eze’s Arsenal move materialising quickly, a late twist involving Guehi cannot be ruled out.
For Liverpool, the 24-year-old would represent a ready-made option to strengthen their backline immediately. With just days left before the transfer window closes, this is one battle that may go down to the wire.
