Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a major attacking decision ahead of the winter window, with Federico Chiesa’s place in Arne Slot’s plans now under serious question. The Italian winger started the campaign brightly but has struggled to secure consistent minutes, sparking fresh debate about his long-term role at Anfield.
Chiesa’s Situation Draws Transfer Interest
The 28-year-old has attracted attention from several Serie A sides, and according to a report from Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Liverpool may be open to parting ways with him — but only if they lock in a replacement first. Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo is believed to be high on their shortlist.
Chiesa had the option to leave in the summer after a challenging previous season but opted to remain and fight for a meaningful role under Slot. However, despite moments of promise, he has largely been restricted to cameo appearances.
Slot Yet to Be Fully Convinced
So far this season, Chiesa has managed just 380 minutes across 14 matches in all competitions, with only two starts — both coming in the EFL Cup. O’Rourke notes that Slot appears unconvinced about giving the winger an extended run, even though some fans have been calling for him to feature more often.
With Italian clubs circling and Chiesa eager to maintain his standing ahead of the next World Cup, the idea of a January move may grow more appealing if his situation does not improve.
Liverpool Eye Semenyo as Potential Replacement
Liverpool are expected to explore a move for Semenyo should they decide to cash in on Chiesa. The Bournemouth attacker has impressed in the Premier League, and the Reds believe he could bring a different dimension to their forward line.
