Liverpool are anxiously awaiting medical results after Alexander Isak picked up what is believed to be a serious leg injury during the weekend victory over Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The Swedish striker made an immediate impact after coming on as a substitute, scoring in the second half after racing onto a perfectly weighted pass from Florian Wirtz. Isak calmly finished past the goalkeeper, but the moment was quickly overshadowed by a heavy collision with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven in the process.
The contact left Isak unable to continue, with the forward clearly struggling as he left the pitch. He appeared to be in significant discomfort, raising concerns among Liverpool staff and supporters alike.
Despite enduring a slow start since arriving at Anfield, the goal against Spurs was a timely reminder of Isak’s quality. However, his tendency to suffer setbacks has resurfaced at the worst possible moment, just as he seemed ready to build momentum.
Scan Results Awaited as Fears Grow
Respected journalist David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool fear the injury could be “significant”, with the club waiting on scan results to determine the full extent of the damage to Isak’s lower leg.
This setback comes at an awkward time for Arne Slot’s side. With Mohamed Salah set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations, Isak was expected to feature more prominently in the coming weeks alongside Hugo Ekitike. Now, Slot may be forced to rely heavily on Ekitike, carefully managing his minutes due to limited attacking options.
There is some cautious optimism, however. Journalist Mike Keegan has suggested that Liverpool do not believe the injury involves Isak’s ACL, though it is still expected to sideline him for a notable period.
A Cruel Blow at the Worst Moment
Suffering an injury while scoring a rare goal makes the situation even more frustrating for Isak. The strike against Tottenham had the potential to spark his Liverpool career into life, but instead, it has brought his progress to a sudden halt.
While the exact recovery timeline remains unclear, the injury represents a major setback for both player and club. With plenty of the season still to play, Isak will hope to return and make his mark — but for now, patience and recovery appear to be the only options.
