Liverpool battle Newcastle ‘tooth and nail’ for prolific striker Luis Suarez
Liverpool are locked in a fierce transfer battle with Newcastle United for Luis Javier Suarez, with both clubs pushing to trigger his £69m release clause.
Despite strengthening their attack in recent windows, Liverpool are still targeting another striker to bolster their frontline. Suarez, currently starring for Sporting, has emerged as a key option after a prolific run of form.
The 28-year-old has been one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers over the past couple of seasons. He scored 31 goals in 43 games for the Spanish second division side Almeria last term and already has netted 33 in 42 outings for Sporting in 2025/26.
Suarez’s release clause is set at £69 million, making the deal relatively straightforward from a contractual standpoint, though competition between Premier League sides could drive urgency in negotiations.
