Ibrahima Konate has addressed the growing speculation surrounding his future at Liverpool, insisting that talk of a new contract offer is premature. Speaking at a press event ahead of France’s upcoming World Cup qualifier, the defender made it clear that nothing has been finalized.
Konate’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, and with no agreement reached after more than a year of negotiations, questions about his next move continue to intensify. The Frenchman has recently been linked with Real Madrid, who are reportedly monitoring his situation closely—especially after Trent Alexander-Arnold made the switch to Spain earlier in the year.
Despite online claims that Liverpool had submitted a final contract proposal, Konate dismissed those reports with a smile, explaining that discussions are ongoing.
> “I’ve seen so many rumours,” he told reporters. “People say Liverpool have offered me something new, but I honestly don’t know where that came from. My representatives are still talking with the club, and I hope I can make my decision soon.”
Liverpool remain eager to secure the centre-back’s long-term commitment. Konate has been a regular starter under Arne Slot this season, appearing in every Premier League and Champions League match so far. His performances, however, have been inconsistent—mixing commanding displays in big fixtures with a handful of costly errors earlier in the campaign.
This uncertainty comes during a wider conversation about French defenders, with Kylian Mbappé also being asked about the possibility of Dayot Upamecano moving to Real Madrid. Upamecano has similarly been linked with Liverpool in recent months.
For now, Konate’s situation is unresolved. While the club hopes to tie him down, interest from elsewhere—and his own desire for clarity—means a conclusion is still pending.
