Liverpool and Aston Villa are gearing up for discussions over Harvey Elliott’s loan spell, with the 22-year-old midfielder’s future potentially changing in January, sources suggest.
Elliott, who joined Villa on loan during the final hours of the summer transfer window, has struggled to secure consistent game time. His deal includes a £35 million obligation to buy, which activates automatically if he makes 10 appearances for Unai Emery’s side.
At present, Elliott has featured in only five matches across all competitions, leaving just five appearances before Villa would be required to finalize the transfer. Financial and UEFA regulations appear to be causing Villa to hesitate before triggering the clause.
Recent weeks have seen Elliott fall further down the squad hierarchy, with Emery even choosing 18-year-old George Hemmings on the bench over him for the clash against Leeds United.
The final decision will largely hinge on the terms outlined in the original loan agreement, with Liverpool keeping a close eye on their young midfielder’s next steps.
