The French forward, who has been Liverpool’s leading goalscorer this season with 11 goals across all competitions, did not travel to Craven Cottage for Sunday afternoon’s fixture, which kicked off at 3:15 pm UK time.
Slot Explains Ekitike Absence
Speaking ahead of the game, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot confirmed that Ekitike’s injury is not serious and was largely caused by the heavy workload he has carried in recent weeks, especially during the demanding festive schedule.
According to Slot, the striker has been asked to play extended minutes following injuries elsewhere in the squad, which eventually took its toll.
> “With Alexander Isak sidelined for several weeks, Ekitike has had to play more than earlier in the season,” Slot explained.
“That extra load led to a slight hamstring issue. For a young player still adapting to the Premier League, it became a bit too much.”

Liverpool’s attacking options have already been stretched, with Mohamed Salah unavailable for the last three matches due to the Africa Cup of Nations, while Isak remains out with an ankle injury. As a result, Ekitike has carried significant responsibility in the forward line.
Despite the setback, Slot remains optimistic that the striker’s absence will be short-lived.

“But we’re hopeful he’ll be available again for the Arsenal match.”
