The Argentine midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 for £35m, has been a key figure since his arrival. However, against Palace, he struggled to make an impact. Fans took to social media to voice frustration, with some describing him as looking “absolutely lost.”
Others suggested that Palace youngster Adam Wharton would be a better choice in midfield at present. One supporter wrote:
“I don’t know if it’s just fitness, but Mac Allister shouldn’t be starting anymore. He hasn’t looked sharp all season.”

Mac Allister lasted 65 minutes before being replaced by Curtis Jones. He failed to register a shot, lost both of his ground duels, and was dispossessed seven times. Despite winning his aerial battles, the 26-year-old was far from his usual reliable self.
With midfielders like Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in excellent form, questions are now being asked about whether Mac Allister should continue starting.
Liverpool have plenty of depth, but Slot may soon be forced into making a tough call — and based on the Selhurst Park showing, Mac Allister’s place could be at risk.
