Possible Long-Term Absence Looms for Liverpool Striker Following Knee Concern in 2-1 Win
Alexander Isak’s moment of triumph turned sour during Liverpool’s hard-fought 2-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur, as the forward sustained a concerning leg issue right after netting the opening goal.
The Swedish international, introduced as a second-half substitute, broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a composed finish assisted by Florian Wirtz. However, a late sliding tackle from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven caught Isak awkwardly as he struck the ball, leaving him in visible agony on the pitch.
Isak required immediate medical attention and was eventually helped off the field, unable to continue, and replaced shortly afterward.
Following the match, a physiotherapy analyst known as PhysioScout shared a preliminary assessment on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting the mechanism of the injury could point to significant damage.
In the post, PhysioScout noted: “Alexander Isak had to be subbed off with a leg injury in Liverpool’s clash vs. Spurs. Off initial look, it seems to be an ACL injury (+/- meniscus).
“Initial contact was made with the ankle, but the knee was forced into a valgus position which brings ACL/MCL into question. He was able to walk off which likely rules out any lower leg fracture. Was clutching at the knee. If ACL: 9+ months.”
This early evaluation highlights the risk of a serious knee ligament injury, potentially involving the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or medial collateral ligament (MCL), possibly compounded by meniscus damage.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot provided a cautious update post-match, indicating an anxious wait for scans while expressing hope it might not be as severe as feared.
The result saw Liverpool capitalize on Tottenham’s reductions to 10 and then nine men, with Hugo Ekitike adding a second goal before a late consolation from Richarlison.
