After Crystal Palace’s impressive 2–0 win over Wolverhampton, Marc Guéhi kept things simple yet meaningful in his post: “Well done, team.” The three-word message underscored his focus on unity at Selhurst Park, rather than the swirling transfer speculation.
That focus comes at a time when Liverpool’s defensive struggles are deepening. The Reds, who came close to signing Guéhi for £35 million on the final day of the summer window, are now under pressure at the back. Their recent 3–0 loss to Nottingham Forest, in which Arne Slot substituted Ibrahima Konaté early, has intensified questions around their center-back options.
Guéhi’s contract at Palace is set to expire next summer, and his consistent performances are fueling talk that Liverpool could revisit their interest in January — especially since Palace previously rejected a move because they couldn’t find a suitable replacement. His leadership and defensive solidity make him an appealing target as Liverpool consider shoring up their back line.
But the speculation isn’t limited to Anfield. Other major clubs — including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich — are keeping tabs on him, too. Despite that, Guéhi has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to the present. In recent remarks, he said he’s not overly concerned with what comes after this season: “Wherever God wants me to go, I will go … but that will be taken care of at the end of the season.” He also noted that he doesn’t let contract talks distract him from performing on the pitch.
Reflecting on the collapse of his move last summer, Guéhi admitted it was a whirlwind: “When [deadline day] happened, it was all a blur … I’m still the same young man trying to find his feet … trying to improve.” Now, with Liverpool’s defensive issues laid bare, his form and situation could force Palace’s hand. But for now, Guéhi is keeping his head down — and letting his performances, and that three-word message, do the talking.
