Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that some of his biggest names will not be involved when the Reds meet Southampton in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield.

Speaking after his side’s hard-fought 2-1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton, Slot explained that he plans to rest several first-team regulars who have been heavily involved in recent fixtures.

Among those expected to miss Tuesday’s tie are Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch — all of whom have featured extensively in the last three games.

Slot hinted at his selection approach, saying supporters “won’t be seeing them on Tuesday,” as he looks to manage player fitness during a busy run of matches across both domestic and European competitions.

With Liverpool chasing silverware on multiple fronts, the Southampton clash will likely provide opportunities for fringe players and youngsters to stake their claim for more minutes.
