Liverpool boss Arne Slot insists he isn’t fearing for his job despite another disappointing result — a painful 3–0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
The Reds’ struggles showed no signs of ending as goals from Ismaila Sarr (twice) and Yeremy Pino sealed a dominant victory for the visitors at Anfield. It was Liverpool’s sixth loss in seven matches, deepening concerns about the team’s direction under Slot.
After the final whistle, the Dutchman looked visibly frustrated but maintained that his position remains stable despite the club’s recent downturn.
> “When you manage Liverpool, pressure is always there — win or lose,” Slot told reporters. “It doesn’t feel any different now, even after this result.”
Slot defended his decision to rotate the squad heavily, explaining that the Carabao Cup has traditionally been used to give younger players a chance to impress.
> “Those who follow Liverpool closely know we’ve often used this competition to test our youngsters,” he said in his post-match comments.
Still, the head coach acknowledged that Liverpool’s intense match schedule hasn’t helped matters. With limited recovery time between fixtures and a number of key players unavailable, fatigue has become a serious issue.
> “There are a lot of reasons behind our poor results, but they don’t excuse losing so often,” Slot added. “We’ve had only two days’ rest between tough away games. When you have 15 or 16 senior players fit, it’s hard to rotate properly.”
The manager also referenced the team’s struggles in recent games, including the defeat to Brentford, suggesting the quick turnaround and lack of preseason minutes for certain stars — such as Alexander Isak — had made things worse.
> “Playing three matches in seven days at this level is a real challenge,” he explained. “Some players are still adapting to Premier League and Champions League tempo.”
Liverpool, who currently sit seventh in the Premier League, will try to bounce back when they face Aston Villa at Anfield this weekend, before turning their attention to a massive Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
