The Egyptian forward capped his latest Anfield appearance with an assist in the 2–0 win over Brighton, before departing to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations. That contribution also saw Salah further cement his place in Liverpool history by extending his record for combined Premier League goals and assists for a single club.
Only days earlier, Salah had been left out of the travelling squad for Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan, a decision that sparked plenty of debate. However, Slot quickly moved on from the situation, restoring the forward to the squad against Brighton and turning to him early in the match when circumstances demanded it.
Speculation continues to swirl over whether Salah could have played his final game for the Reds, especially with reports suggesting Saudi Pro League clubs may renew their interest when the January window opens. Still, his seamless return to the lineup offered encouragement to supporters hopeful that the club’s talisman remains part of Liverpool’s plans.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, Slot was asked directly about Salah but chose not to dwell on the topic.

Slot confirmed that Cody Gakpo’s scan showed encouraging signs, raising hopes of an earlier-than-expected return, though he will not be available for the Spurs clash. Dominik Szoboszlai has also resumed training, with the coaching staff monitoring his condition closely.
Meanwhile, club captain Virgil van Dijk admitted that Salah’s long-term future remains uncertain, despite the forward’s importance to the squad.
