Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that teenage prospects Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni will be part of the Reds’ senior setup this season.
Ngumoha, who turns 17 later in August, has stood out during pre-season, just a year after making the switch from Chelsea’s academy. Nyoni, also highly rated, caught the eye last year when he scored as a 17-year-old against Sevilla.
Speaking on their promotion, Slot stressed the importance of gradual development:
> “These lads now have the chance to train daily with players like Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah. Learning how to perform at the highest level every few days is a big step for anyone — especially at 16 or 17.”
The Dutch boss also noted that the club must carefully manage their progress, considering the physical demands of top-flight football.
Both youngsters impressed recently, with Slot highlighting Nyoni’s strong display in the recent match at Anfield against Athletic Club.
While discussing the pair, Slot also hinted that Liverpool remain active in the transfer market, but insisted he’s already satisfied with his attacking depth, mentioning Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah as current options.
With two homegrown starlets now stepping into the spotlight, Liverpool may find themselves saving millions in the transfer market — if these young talents deliver on their promise.
