Liverpool boss Arne Slot has delivered mixed news ahead of his side’s Premier League showdown with Aston Villa at Anfield this weekend.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Slot revealed that Alexander Isak and Curtis Jones are “99.9% certain” to miss the upcoming fixture, but offered a glimmer of hope as Ryan Gravenberch edges closer to a return after resuming full training.
Gravenberch, who has been sidelined for three matches following an ankle injury picked up against Manchester United, could make his comeback during a crucial week that includes games against Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Slot explained:
> “Ryan trained with us yesterday and again today. We’ll assess him before making a final call. Isak and Jones haven’t trained yet, so they’re almost certainly unavailable.”
Meanwhile, Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong remain out with hamstring issues, and young defender Giovanni Leoni has been ruled out for the rest of the season following ACL surgery.
Despite the mounting injury list, Slot insists the Reds still have enough depth to handle the busy schedule:
> “We’ve got the quality to compete, but with so many games in a short period, it’s about managing player fitness and avoiding more setbacks.”
Liverpool will aim to bounce back from their midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace and maintain their Premier League momentum as they prepare for a decisive stretch in their campaign.
