Arne Slot confirms Curtis Jones ruled out of Burnley clash đ
Liverpool have been dealt a setback ahead of their Premier League return, with head coach Arne Slot revealing that Curtis Jones will miss the upcoming game against Burnley after sustaining an injury.
Speaking during his press conference, Slot explained that while most of his squad returned safely from international duty, the 24-year-old midfielder picked up a problem in his last outing and wonât be available.
> âWe trained today with nearly everyone back,â Slot said. âCurtis unfortunately got injured in his last match, so he wonât be fit to face Burnley.â
Jonesâ absence is untimely, especially as he continues to battle for a regular role in Liverpoolâs midfield alongside Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister. With Wirtz recently added to provide more creativity, even more responsibility could fall on the young German in Jonesâ absence.
The Liverpool academy graduate had been linked with a move away during the summer, but Slotâs faith in him ensured he stayed at Anfield. Losing him now will test the squadâs depth, particularly with fixtures coming thick and fast.
Slot also expressed relief that the rest of his players came back unscathed from international duty, noting how demanding back-to-back games can be so early in the season.
Without Jones, the Reds will rely on the likes of Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Gravenberch to step up against Vincent Kompanyâs Burnley. The Dutch boss was especially pleased with how Gravenberch was managed during his time with the Netherlands.
Jones had been praised last season as one of Liverpoolâs unsung heroes by Sir Kenny Dalglish, and the hope now is that his current setback proves to be a short one. The Reds will be eager to see him return quickly as they push for another big campaign under Slot.
