Liverpool’s vice-captain Andy Robertson has shared a heartfelt note on social media as he wrapped up international duty and boarded a flight back to Merseyside.
The Reds have made a flawless start to their Premier League title defence, with three straight victories — capped off by Dominik Szoboszlai’s stunning free-kick against Arsenal. Yet Robertson has been notably absent from the starting XI, with new signing Milos Kerkez preferred in Arne Slot’s early line-ups.
That decision has kept speculation alive regarding Robertson’s long-term role at Anfield. Back in June, reports suggested Liverpool were open to listening to offers for the 30-year-old defender. While no transfer materialised, the club handed him a boost by naming him vice-captain for the season.
During the break, Robertson played a central role for Scotland, starting in both matches — a 0-0 draw with Denmark and a 2-0 win over Belarus. After the final game, he posted on Instagram: “A good week, loved every minute,” alongside a photo from the match. He followed it with an image of himself on a plane, adding: “Until next time,” as he headed back to Liverpool.
Despite uncertainty over his future at club level, Robertson’s importance to Scotland remains unquestioned. His leadership continues to shine, with the national side now sitting second in their World Cup qualifying group — level on points with Denmark.
Meanwhile, another defensive storyline is unfolding at Anfield. Ibrahima Konaté’s future appears increasingly uncertain, with Real Madrid monitoring him ahead of a potential free transfer in 2026. The Frenchman has less than a year left on his contract, and with Liverpool missing out on Marc Guehi over the summer, talks are expected — but for now, the exit door looks closer than an extension.
